Kaws - Melt

Melting Kaws figure created with Houdini/Redshift.

Base setup:

With this personal project, I wanted to explore a procedural way of melting a sourced 3D model using flip sim. With a combination of mops noise falloff and a sop solver placed inside the dopnet. I was able to trigger both viscosity and pop force through attributes over time. By transferring UV’s over to the source points prior to the simulation, I was able to transfer them back after meshing.

After sim:

With the base model initially downloaded from Sketchfab, a few of the smaller details were lost when converting the mesh to a flip source. I was able to recreate the details, mostly pertaining to the eyes, in substance painter before using them as a displacement map.

TLDR: Import model -> Points from volume -> Transfer UV’s from Mesh -> Mask from geometry with noise (or mops falloff) -> Inside dopnet place a sop solver and transfer/remap attributes -> drive pop force and viscosity with custom attribute -> Mesh the flip sim and transfer UV’s back.
